The eligibility criteria for appearing in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) are as follows:
Nationality: A candidate must be a citizen of India.
Age Limit: The minimum age limit to appear for the CSE is 21 years. There is an upper age limit for different categories, which is as follows:
- General category: 32 years
- OBC category: 35 years
- SC/ST category: 37 years
- Ex-servicemen: 37 years
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: 42 years
Educational Qualification: A candidate must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
Number of Attempts: The number of attempts for the CSE is as follows:
- General category: 6 attempts
- OBC category: 9 attempts
- SC/ST category: No limit
- Ex-servicemen: No limit
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: No limit
Physical Standards: A candidate must meet the physical standards as prescribed by the UPSC.
It's important to note that, The candidates who are appearing in the final year of their graduation can also apply for the UPSC examination.
However, they have to submit proof of passing the graduation examination on or before 1st October of the year in which he/she is appearing for the CSE.
